How we started
The project Almer was started with the question “What does it take to make useful Augmented Reality (AR)?” by students and researchers at ETH and Tsinghua University.
We learned a lot about the challenges of making AR useful by assembling technology prototypes in Shenzhen.
After a year of further research, we decided to found Almer as a company.
Christian Almer
(1826 – 1898)
In the Golden and Silver Age, Christian Almer was without a doubt the most prosperous and well-known mountain guide in Grindelwald, Switzerland.
Over 45 first ascents were accomplished by him throughout the whole Alpine area. He made the first ascents of numerous notable mountains in the western Alps.
Swiss mountaineers Christian Almer and Peter Bohren, as well as Irishman Charles Barrington, climbed the west slope of the Bernese Alps’ 3,967-meter-tall (13,015-ft) Eiger on August 11, 1858, becoming the first people to do so.
